For a long time, people confused how much you paid for a cruise with the quality of the cruise. This of course, was not the case. Discount vacation packages are usually discounted because the tickets were either bought in bulk by a company who resells the travel plans for less than the price retailed by the original travel company, or because travelers are willing to travel on short notice and can therefor take advantage of last minute discounts. In the case of the latter, these are tickets that would have gone for the normal price only weeks before, but because it is unlikely that they would sell in the interim period before the trip, they are discounted as an incentive for buyers.

I can remember one time I was on a bus with a group of people traveling from British Columbia down into Seattle and when we got to customs the car lanes were absolutely packed. I was thinking "oh no, this is going to take forever," but when we pulled off into the group area, we all got off the bus, were processed immediately, and were right back on the road before I knew it. It is the combination of little things like that that can make group travel feel like the only way to go.

Of course, it is also one of the very best ways to completely alleviate the pressure of planning your vacation. Imagine not having to worry about the budget, factoring in gas prices or the cost of taxis in any given city, and wondering about unexpected expenses. If you didn't have to learn the train schedules or figure out where to stay, would you feel free to travel more often? Both planning and more awareness of the area and it's offerings are what goes into creating that reality. There is also something to be said about the comfort and safety of being in a group. You have ready-made travel companions, sure, but you also have people who know where you've gone and when you should be back- something that solo travelers don't have. Should you have a medical emergency, that means there are people around you who can help, or go get help, depending on the situation. All in all, it's a pretty brilliant way to travel!
